Villanova, meanwhile, defeated Michigan 63-55 behind a 22-point performance from Jermaine Samuels and 12-point showing from Collin Gillespie. Despite some scoring droughts from Villanova, staunch defense and opportune shots when the Wolverines drew close were more than enough to preserve the lead.

Houston enters this game as a slight favorite against Villanova, with the two teams clearly being evenly matched. Jamal Shead and Kyler Edwards both had big games against Arizona, and they stack up well against the veteran Villanova backcourt.

Houston is seeking its second straight Final Four appearance, and this is Kelvin Sampson’s third straight tournament making it to at least the Sweet 16. Sampson is building a very strong program at Houston, and a second straight Final Four appearance would only solidify that status. Villanova’s Jay Wright is no stranger to this stage. The Wildcats won a national championship in 2018, and this already marks their deepest run since.
