The New York Giants have proven to have a lot of fight in them over their last few games. Since a listless 38-11 loss to the Rams, they’ve won two of their last three games, with the loss being another “Monday Night Football” game against the Chiefs – a 20-17 final. This game is setting up as something similar, where they’re facing an opponent that is superior on paper but is having some struggles in recent weeks.
Bruce Arians has made his feelings on the Bucs’ past few games known, calling them a “dumb football team.” The numbers have borne that out the past two weeks, with Tampa Bay racking up 99 yards in penalties against the Saints while losing the turnover battle against Washington last week. This isn’t who Tampa Bay is, but they’re issues they have to rectify if they’re going to compete in the NFC.
The Giants, on the other side, aren’t just playing for consolation prizes anymore. The NFC has been blown wide open, with six teams at either four or five wins and several of those teams trending downward. Daniel Jones looks less mistake-prone since his disastrous game against the Rams, and he’ll have to protect the ball against an aggressive Buccaneers defense that could have some wounded pride after last week. The good news for the Giants: Saquon Barkley looks like he’s trending towards a return. The bad news: The Bucs are second in the NFL against the run, trailing only their divisional foe the Saints.
